New Year, New Beginnings

So as I posted in our last blog (the wax incident) we thought we were going to have to shave our poor lumpy headed kid's hair off... I did a little research before we took to extreme measures and found that by rubbing olive oil on it, the wax dissolved away. Although Zech looked like a grease monkey, we didn't have to worry about shaving his hair off. Yeahhh!
We have been keeping our options open when it comes to listening to what the Lord has for our family. In our last blog I mentioned we are looking into buying a house (and the answer is yes, Kayla, on painting said house, free labor... we won't argue!) So we've been super stoked about that. It has felt as though God has been saying stay in Redding. Then a couple weeks ago we get an email from a church up in Portland,Oregon saying they saw Nick's application on the Youth Specialties website and would he mind sending them his resume. We didn't think much of it at first, because we have had some very interesting churches respond to his app before. We checked out their website anyway and were very impressed. Long story short, we are currently going through the interview process with them. We don't know which direction God wants us to go in, but we'll continue to go through the doors and He'll let us know when He closes them. It's worked so far. We haven't stopped house hunting here in Redding either, so we'll see. All I know is Nick's desire to work with youth has not changed.

Christmas was good for us this year. Very relaxing. We spent Christmas Eve with the Welch side of the family and Christmas Day with the Mapes side. For the first time in a while we felt we could really give back to our friends and family like they have done for us in year's past and are still doing for us today. This past year has been tough but as a family we have never been closer. And Zech is old enough now I hope he still remembers this time in his life and can learn from it.

I don't know how many of you were affected by the storm this last week, but we lost power for three days and it was rough, but three days is nothing in comparison to what so many others are going through across the nation. It just made me think... and pray. Sorry to end this blog on a serious note. Have a happy new year!

I know some pretty great people who live in Portland, Oregon, so maybe you'll be able to spend some time with them if the Lord brings you up here!

Glad to hear Christmas was good and that Zech still has his hair!

Love,
Kimberly

So I'm very glad yo hear that I can paint your potential home. I was a little worried that perhaps your ever-artistic sister might get first call. Also glad to hear Zech isn't bald. After I read that last post I was trying to imagine what he would look like bald and it was not so great.

Oh and also, after talking with Nick just a little bit ago, I must say that I am praying for you all and hope that something definite will happen soon so you can get on with your lives!
